Multi-part cases / tray + lid

The multi-part case or the tray+lid packaging consists of two separate packaging elements which are made of one flat blank each. In this context, the lid for closing the tray can have characteristics which have an impact on the machine process. Here, we can differentiate between:

  • Internal lid – The side walls of the lid are placed between the product and the wall of the tray.
  • External lid – The side walls of the lid are located outside the external walls of the tray.

The following solutions can be considered as machine concepts:

  • Unipacker using a side-loading principle – the compact and economical solution for low flexibility requirements. In internal lids, the lid blank is shaped after product grouping and inserted into the tray together with the product in side-loading. In the case of external lids, the tray is covered with the lid in a lid station after sealing.
  • Robot lid module in the Robot-Flex-Line packaging solution – the flexible solution for top-loading applications with low performance requirements.

This solution is particularly suitable for internal lids, such as insert lids (e.g. U-shaped lids) since the extensive mobility of the 6-axis robot applies with regard to the insertion of the lid walls between the product and the tray wall.

SAMPLE APPLICATIONS:

SAMPLE 1

Servo lid placer module for 75 cases per minute: blank removal, glue application and shaping/gluing of lids are applied via servo-axes in each case. Outputs of up to 40 cases per minutes are possible with a simple module. Multiple modules and forming stations are used for higher outputs.

SAMPLE 2

Robot lid placer module: The 6-axis robot separates then lid blank. A folding tool for shaping the lid is integrated in the gripper. The insert lid is then pushed into the filled tray.

SAMPLE 3

Tray lid packaging in the Unipacker using the side-loading principle and an internal lid. The lid blank is already shaped in grouping and inserted laterally into the tray together with the product.
